The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has initiated a pilot program for its Digital Travel Credential (DTC) in collaboration with the Lufthansa Group. The DTC aims to streamline passenger identification processes by allowing travelers to create a secure digital version of their passport on their mobile devices.

This pilot, currently underway at Munich Airport, enables selected passengers on Lufthansa flights to use their DTC for automated check-in and boarding procedures. The technology is designed to enhance both security and efficiency, reducing the need for physical document checks while maintaining compliance with international standards.

The project is being conducted in cooperation with the German Federal Police and leverages ICAO specifications for digital travel documents. Insights from this trial are expected to inform broader adoption of digital credentials across the aviation sector, supporting the industry's ongoing digital transformation.
