At the Ramstein Air Base Airshow in Germany, three aircraft of Italy’s Frecce Tricolori collided during a complex maneuver. One jet crashed into the crowd. The tragedy claimed 67 spectators and 3 pilots, injuring more than 340 others.

While it was one of aviation’s darkest moments, it also became a turning point.
